Adopting Healthy Habits-small

Join the Healthy Hosting Initiative

Healthy Hosting Initiative:

A simple way to provide valuable health information and screening services to the public at a single event. Any event open to families or community can become a healthy hosting event by incorporating wellness resources and activities into the existing itinerary. These might include but are not limited to: wellness fairs, fundraisers, open houses, sporting events, etc.

Healthy Fundraising adheres to the following guidelines:

  • Opportunities to promote physical activity.
  • Healthy snack and/or non-food incentives/reinforcements in lieu of candy or other non-nutritious treats.
  • Information on local wellness resources.
  • Promotion of local foods.

The AHH Community Coalition will provide:

  • Information, education, and assistance for organizations to create guidelines, practices, and/or policies to ensure that wellness fairs and other community events support a healthy lifestyle.
  • Assistance with updating current wellness policies and procedures.
  • Signs, posters, handouts, and/or other educational materials to promote health and nutrition at community events as well as attempt to participate in events whenever possible.
  • Recognition through social and traditional media.

Organizations wishing to implement this initiative will:

  • Create practices and/or policies to make the healthy choice the easy choice at events for children and community members.
  • Provide education for managers and staff as needed.
  • Display signs, posters, handouts, and/or other educational materials to promote health and nutrition in prominent locations.
