About our 4-H Afterschool Programs

Do you have a passion for working with kids? Do you want to help them succeed academically and beyond? Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County operates several 4-H Afterschool Programs in multiple school districts in Jefferson and Lewis Counties. These programs provide comprehensive youth development opportunities for participants in grades pre-K-12 in participating school districts. Youth take part in 4-H club activities and life skills, focusing in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM) as well as a variety of other academic improvement initiatives utilizing research-based 4-H curricula.

Title of Positions: 4-H Afterschool Program Educators

Position Details: P/T; 15-20 hrs/wk; $15.73 - $16.00/hr

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive 4-H youth development opportunities for youth from the school district.
  • Provide guidance, direction and supervision for program participants and 4-H After-School activities, including club and life skills.
  • Assist collaborating teachers during the academic study portion of the program.
  • Provide instruction utilizing 4-H curricula in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM).
  • Assist in the creation of program lesson plans.
  • Provide staffing and/or programming coverage, as needed, for other 4-H After-School Programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and 1 year transferrable/program experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to meet all School Age Child Care (SACC) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements (i.e. Tuberculosis Test, physical exam, training requirements).
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends

Details of Position: P/T, 30 hrs/wk, $16.55/hr

About the Position:

The 4-H Afterschool Program Assistant Coordinator will provide guidance and direction for program participants and afterschool activities, including club and life skills, as well as assisting the collaborating teachers during the academic study portion of the program. They will utilize established 4-H curriculum in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM). Healthy lifestyles programming will also be incorporated into programming. The 4-H Afterschool Program Assistant Coordinator will assist in the creation of program lesson plans, utilize a variety of delivery methods, and assist in delivering established innovative educational programs as assigned.

Details of Position: P/T, 15 hrs/wk, $13.50/hr

About the Position:

Are you a teen looking to get involved in the afterschool program at your school? Do you want to be a good role model for other students? We have the perfect opportunity for you!

The Teen Mentor/Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting the afterschool program by providing activities for youth. They will positively promote 4-H program activities and research-based curriculum while working with youth in grades K-8. The Teen Mentor/Program Assistant will encourage and engage participants to complete academic activities that improve their learning. They will be a supportive and positive role model to students.
