About the Position: This position will serve as the Administrative Assistant for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County and will provide support to the Fort Drum Family Development Program to include, but not limited to: answering phone calls, greeting and directing visitors, registering program participants, database entry, organizing files and storage and supply areas, updating documents, maintaining Facebook page etc. Will provide administrative support to specific program areas, as needed. This position will support program activities and requirements consistent with Army Community Services (ACS) and program accreditation standards. This position will represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the general public, community leaders and government officials in a professional manner. Will appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public.

About the Position: This position is classified as an Association Temporary Program position in the Youth, Family and Community Development Program Area, and will serve as the 4-H Summer Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County. This position is responsible for support to the organization within the limits of established policies, guidelines and/or procedures. This position will assist with the STEM summer day camp program, 4-H Youth Development Educational Programs and assist in the preparation, setup, and events and activities for County Fair. This position will represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the general public, community leaders and government officials in a professional manner. Will appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public. This position is responsible for carrying out other professional duties as assigned to fulfill the policies and priorities of the Association. Position Title: FAMILY DEVELOPMENT EDUCATOR

About the Position: This position will serve as the Family Development Program Educator and will work with military families on Fort Drum to offer a variety of programs, including the activities that strengthen family communication, promote effective parenting strategies, and provide techniques to minimize stress and anger. Experience working with military audiences preferred but not required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family, child counseling, behavioral science, education, community health, public health or equivalent education.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in family and children’s services or community organizations.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in domestic/family violence education/prevention.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

Position Title: St. Lawrence Eastern Lake Ontario (SLELO) Program Specialist

Position Details: Temporary - 30 hours per week through December 15, 2017; $16.85 per hour

About the Position: This position will serve as the St. Lawrence Eastern Lake Ontario (SLELO) Program Specialist for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County and will work under the direction and supervision of the Agriculture & Natural Resources Issue Leader to create and implement a Cultural Impacts Survey. This position will work with the SLELO PRISM Program Coordinator to develop survey questions that will attempt to answer the potential impacts invasive species have on the well-being and livelihoods of people, communities and related industries. This position will administer the survey using multiple delivery methods to achieve the highest level of participation possible. Target audiences may include but are not limited to: trail guides, river guides, hunting guides, charter captains, waterfront restaurant proprietors and agricultural producers. This position will also collect, organize and analyze the response and prepare a final report that includes a summation of the responses, percentage of particular responses to each question including the number of responders taking the survey and submit the report to the SLELO Program Coordinator at the end of the season.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent education (Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years transferrable relevant evidence-based research experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).

Year 1: Healthy Futures/Community Assessment
Tentative Start Date: August 2017

Project Summary: This project will serve 4 rural, high poverty counties in Northern New York. This project proposes to increase production of locally grown produce and meats resulting in improved nutrition access for low income individuals, increase income for producers who live at or near poverty levels, and to assist and provide opportunities for soldiers entering the civilian workforce to find viable agricultural careers through the development of food hub initiatives that connect growers with markets and provide needed technical assistance.

VISTA Member Duties:

  • Identify existing food system infrastructure for local food production
  • Use GIS mapping tools to map identify infrastructure
  • Identify existing food security resources
  • Use GIS mapping tools to map identify food security resources
  • Assist with fund development

Preferred VISTA Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient in GIS data management and use of mapping tools and programs such as QGIS
  • Experience with Social media including facebook, web publishing tools for professional use
  • Proficient in Microsoft office including PowerPoint, and Excel,
  • Asset mapping experience
  • Driver’s license
  • Ability to effectively navigate and communicate with diverse populations and SES
  • Past military experience not required but preferred
  • Fund development/grant writing experience preferred
