Title of Position: Community Energy Educator

The Community Energy Educator will assist with the teaching of clean energy education programs in Northern New York, specifically in Jefferson and Lewis Counties. The Community Energy Educator will work to inform residents, multifamily building owners, and small businesses of the options for adopting clean energy strategies in their homes and businesses. Work includes assisting in establishing and maintaining relationships with community partners, especially Poverty Initiatives, to leverage their networks and resources to reach large numbers of interested parties.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and 2 years of transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position, including teaching non-formal educational programs in energy efficiency and/or renewable energy.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

About our 4-H Afterschool Programs

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County operates several 4-H After-School Programs in multiple school districts in Jefferson and Lewis Counties.These programs provide comprehensive youth development opportunities for participants in grades pre-K-12 in participating school districts.Youth take part in 4-H club activities and life skills, focusing in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM) as well as a variety of other academic improvement initiatives utilizing research-based 4-H curricula.

Title of Positions: 4-H Afterschool Program Educators

Position Details: Part-Time; 20 hrs/wk; $15.50/hr

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive 4-H youth development opportunities for youth from the school district.
  • Provide guidance, direction and supervision for program participants and 4-H After-School activities, including club and life skills.
  • Assist collaborating teachers during the academic study portion of the program.
  • Provide instruction utilizing 4-H curricula in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM).
  • Assist in the creation of program lesson plans.
  • Provide staffing and/or programming coverage, as needed, for other 4-H After-School Programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and 1 year transferrable/program experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to meet all School Age Child Care (SACC) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements (i.e. Tuberculosis Test, physical exam, training requirements).

Title of Position: 4-H Afterschool Program: Teacher Tutors

Position Details: Part-Time; 6 hrs/wk; $20.00/hr

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide intensive remedial assistance as well as assistance with homework to participants enrolled in the 4-H After-school Program during the academic study portion of the program.
  • Coordinate with other 4-H After-school Program Educators and the 4-H After-school Program Coordinator to implement the academic portion of the program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Education.

Title of Position: Afterschool Makerspace Educator

Position Details: P/T, 20 hours/week, $15.50/hour

Work Location: Indian River School District

About the Position:

The Afterschool Makerspace Educator will support programming in the Indian River School District, specifically Indian River High School. The Makerspace Program is an individualized open learning environment that operates in the school’s makerspace. The program allows high school students the opportunity to learn how to use technology to create prototypes and custom products using equipment such as 3D printers, laser engravers, woodworking tools and more. The Educator will work with the Indian River School District 4-H Afterschool Program Site Coordinator, as well as school district staff to design and implement a Makerspace Program curriculum, oversee safety procedures when working with tools and help students design products.
