About the Positions: These positions will serve as a Teacher Tutors for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County in support of the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) Program and will provide intensive remedial assistance as well as assistance with homework to students enrolled in the 21st CCLC Program during the academic study portion of the program.The 21st CCLC Program provides comprehensive youth development opportunities for youth in grades K-12 from the school district. The Teacher-Tutors will coordinate with other Program Educators and the Program Coordinator to implement this portion of the program. These positions will represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the general public, community leaders and government officials in a professional manner. About the Position: This position will serve as the Entrepreneurship 4-H Trainer in support of a partnership with Carthage Central School District’s 21 st Century Learning Center (CCLC) Program for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County. Specific responsibilities will include implementing an entrepreneurship program in collaboration with the After-School Program Director and Carthage 21 st CCLC Administrators and providing student workshops involving workplace, life skills and financial planning educational programming. The entrepreneurship program will challenge youth to envision themselves as business owners, innovators and problem solvers. This position will direct a student-run business, guiding youth in developing business plans and expose youth to entrepreneurs in the community. This position will be responsible for the delivery of established 4-H programming in support of the 21 st CCLC program, and will deliver other established 4-H programming and activities, both on-site and off-site in accordance with the 4-H Youth Development Program Area’s plan of work. This position will also coordinate administrative aspects of the 21 st CCLC program and will assist the After-School Program Director with marketing and fundraising efforts for Carthage 21 st CCLC Programming.

About the Position: This position will serve as the 4-H After School Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County and will work under the direction and supervision of the Youth and Family Development Issue Leader to assist in the directing, organizing, coordinating, and managing of all aspects of the 4-H After School Programs administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County (i.e. Carthage 21 st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC), CCE 21 st CCLC, Indian River Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), and Wiley Advantage). This position may support other After School Programs in this capacity as programming expands and/or school partnerships change. The 4-H After-School Programs provide comprehensive 4-H youth development opportunities for youth in grades pre-K-12 from the school districts. Under the leadership and direction of the Youth and Family Development Issue Leader, the 4-H After School Director will provide supervision, coordination, and leadership to ensure the 4-H After-School Programs meet health, safety and licensing standards and offer quality 4-H youth development educational experiences. This position will also coordinate all aspects of the 4-H After-School enrollment and reporting process; work with outside evaluators to meet grant program objectives; provide administrative support in the recruitment of new participants in the 4-H After-School Programs; coordinate 4-H fundraising and trips; coordinate advisory committee meetings, etc. This position will directly supervise the Association Subject Educator I and the Association Program Coordinator II’s in the 4-H After-School Programs.

These positions will assist with After School Program academic improvement initiatives, meeting the program objectives/goals and working with the Outside Evaluators on evaluation protocols. These positions will utilize existing program resources and materials in program work, and will assist in delivering educational programs as defined. The Program Coordinators will provide supervision to Association Temporary Program positions assigned to the After School Program.

Year 1: Food Hub Community Assessment and Business Model Analysis (standard VISTA benefits apply)

Project Summary:

This Food Hub project will serve 4 rural, high poverty counties in Northern New York. This project proposes to increase production of locally grown produce and meats resulting in improved nutrition access for low income individuals, and increase income for producers who live at or near poverty levels, through the development of food hub initiatives that connect growers with markets and provide needed technical assistance.

VISTA Member Duties:

  • Identify existing and/or needed food system infrastructure for local food production
  • Use GIS mapping tools to map identify existing Food Hub infrastructure
  • Identify existing and/or needed Food Hub Assets
  • Use GIS mapping tools to map identify food production capacity
  • Farm Visits
