Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County cares about our Fort Drum community! As a result of a unique partnership between the United States Army, Fort Drum and Cornell Cooperative Extension, we provide a variety of programs that focus on strengthening our Military families and connecting them to our community both on and off Post. The goals of these programs include: fostering resiliency, encouraging financial independence, promoting positive relationships and healthy family functioning, preparing Soldiers and their families for the transitions that happen regularly within the Army Community, creating volunteer opportunities that really make a difference, and assisting Military family members and Veterans to obtain employment. Title of Position: PROGRAM ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR

Details of Position: F/T, 40 hrs/wk, $15.35/per hour

Location of Position: Fort Drum, NY

About the Position: 

Are you organized? Do you have good communication skills? This position may be for you! 

The Program Activities Coordinator will provide planning and support for the Fort Drum programs. They will organize and coordinate activities and events relating to the Fort Drum programs and will organize assigned aspects of class registrations, preparing materials, reporting processes, and providing other assistance in the support of programming efforts as needed. The Program Activities Coordinator will provide outreach efforts, both on and off post, for military families to distribute marketing information for upcoming classes, workshops, and events through Army Community Services. Outreach will be conducted at housing complexes, the Urban Mission, restaurants, schools, libraries, etc. The Program Activities Coordinator will promote Fort Drum programming via social media efforts and will assist in writing and design of program flyers, newsletters, etc. They will serve as a resource to program staff and volunteers and will assist in delivering and evaluating educational programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent education (High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Experience with and understanding of the military community.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate

It is overseen by the Department of Agriculture and Markets and has created opportunities for local producers to showcase their goods. Title of Position: TASTE NY MARKET STORE CLERK

Details of Position: P/T, 16+ hrs/wk, $12.11/hr (6 positions available)

Location of Position: CCE Jefferson County, 203 N. Hamilton St., Watertown

About the Position:

Are you friendly, good at customer service, and usually smiling? Taste NY Market Store Clerks will assist with management of inventory, operate a cash register, provide cash controls, help with transportation of inventory to the store, provide basic food service and do basic record keeping. On a daily basis the store clerk will inspect the store for cleanliness, organize and refill supplies as needed. The clerk will be able to discuss Jefferson County agriculture and local foods with customers to engage them in these areas and to provide information upon request about the food and farm products sold in the store.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Ability to complete basic math in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
  • Must be able to drive personal or Association vehicle for pick-up and delivery of product from the warehouse to the Taste NY Market (hand cart may be used for transportation purposes).
  • Ability to use or learn to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

About the Position:

They clerk/keyholder will also open and close the store, oversee staff members in the absence of the Market Manager and Assistant Manager, and act as a cashier and store clerk as needed. FOR THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR

ABOUT OUR 4-H AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County operates several 4-H After-School Programs in multiple school districts in Jefferson and Lewis Counties.These programs provide comprehensive youth development opportunities for participants in grades pre-K-12 in participating school districts.Youth take part in 4-H club activities and life skills, focusing in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM) as well as a variety of other academic improvement initiatives utilizing research-based 4-H curricula.

Title of Position: 4-H PROGRAM EDUCATOR

Details of Position: F/T, 40 hrs/wk, $16.85 per hour

Location of Position: CCE Jefferson County, 203 N. Hamilton St., Watertown

About the Position:

The 4-H Program Educator will assist the Youth and Family Development Issue Leader with the planning and development of programming and resources. The Program Educator will work closely with the Youth and Family Development Issue Leader to expand/develop science, technology, engineering and math programs for delivery during evenings, weekends and in the after school programs. The 4-H Program Educator will provide program implementation and administrative direction, and coordination for all aspects of 4-H volunteer efforts to include, but not limited to: utilizing existing volunteer programming resources to recruit new 4-H volunteers; provide orientation and training of 4-H volunteers; and provide ongoing follow-up to volunteers that ensures initial and continued 4-H club success. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent education (Bachelor’s Degree with four (4) years transferrable relevant evidence-based research experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive 4-H youth development opportunities for youth from the school district.
  • Provide guidance, direction and supervision for program participants and 4-H After-School activities, including club and life skills.
  • Assist collaborating teachers during the academic study portion of the program.
  • Provide instruction utilizing 4-H curricula in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM).
  • Assist in the creation of program lesson plans.
  • Provide staffing and/or programming coverage, as needed, for other 4-H After-School Programs.

Position Details: Part-Time; 5-6 hrs/wk; $20.00/hr

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide intensive remedial assistance as well as assistance with homework to participants enrolled in the 4-H After-School Program during the academic study portion of the program.
  • Coordinate with other 4-H After-School Program Educators and the 4-H After-School Program Coordinator to implement the academic portion of the program.

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Education.
