Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement educational programs and activities that provide direct marketing assistance and education in marketing to local farmers and producers
  • Work with the agricultural community to enhance the economic vitality of agri-businesses
  • Provide educational programming to farmers and value-added producers regarding marketing of products that will increase the public’s familiarity with local agricultural
  • Provide training and direct assistance/education on website development, registration for web directories, social media, online sales platforms, search engine optimization, print advertising, signage, retail displays, product demonstrations and sampling, market analysis, market trends, business/marketing plans, wholesale marketing, licensing/certifications, payment methods, and related topics
  • Provide support/education for/at events for the larger public that showcase and market the availability of products grown and/or produced in the North Country

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • One (1) year volunteer or related work experience
  • Coursework in marketing, advertising, business development, agriculture, agriculture business, and/or agriculture economics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food production, food science/technology, and/or food culture
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position

About our 4-H Afterschool Programs

Do you have a passion for working with kids? Do you want to help them succeed academically and beyond? Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County operates several 4-H After-School Programs in multiple school districts in Jefferson and Lewis Counties. These programs provide comprehensive youth development opportunities for participants in grades pre-K-12 in participating school districts. Youth take part in 4-H club activities and life skills, focusing in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM) as well as a variety of other academic improvement initiatives utilizing research-based 4-H curricula.

Title of Positions: 4-H Afterschool Program Educators

Position Details: P/T; 15-20 hrs/wk; $15.73 - $16.00/hr

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive 4-H youth development opportunities for youth from the school district.
  • Provide guidance, direction and supervision for program participants and 4-H After-School activities, including club and life skills.
  • Assist collaborating teachers during the academic study portion of the program.
  • Provide instruction utilizing 4-H curricula in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM).
  • Assist in the creation of program lesson plans.
  • Provide staffing and/or programming coverage, as needed, for other 4-H After-School Programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and 1 year transferrable/program experience).
