Location of Position: CCE Jefferson County, 203 N. Hamilton St. Watertown 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement a robust marketing and education plan to ensure consumers are aware of opportunities to access fresh, local food at farmers markets with a goal of increasing the use of SNAP/EBT and other food resource programs. 
  • Host cooking classes and events. 
  • Train farmers market managers, staff, volunteers, and vendors on SNAP/EBT acceptance best practices. 
  • Use established marketing channels to highlight local food opportunities. 
  • Educator customers on usage of food resource programs and farmers markets. 
  • Work with the Farmers Market Federation of New York, farmers market managers, farmers market vendors, and the community to increase opportunities for local producers by increasing the number of farmers markets accepting SNAP/EBT and other food resource programs. 
  • Provide training, support, and education in relation to Farm to School programming in the North and Central regions. 

Required Qualifications:

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County operates several 4-H Afterschool Programs in multiple school districts in Jefferson and Lewis Counties. These programs provide comprehensive youth development opportunities for participants in grades pre-K-12 in participating school districts. Youth take part in 4-H club activities and life skills, focusing in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art and math (STEAM) as well as a variety of other academic improvement initiatives utilizing research-based 4-H curricula. 

Title of Positions: 4-H Afterschool Program Educators

Position Details: P/T; 15-20 hrs/wk; $16.00/hr

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive 4-H youth development opportunities for youth from the school district.
  • Provide guidance, direction and supervision for program participants and 4-H After-School activities, including club and life skills.
  • Assist collaborating teachers during the academic study portion of the program.
