Field Crops

The Field Crops Program provides research-based field crop production recommendations and resources. Assistance is accessible through educational programs, fact sheets, bulletins, articles, websites and individual contacts through on-farm visits to meet the needs of the producers. The field crop program is also very active with on farm agronomic research and demonstration projects. The goal is to improve crop production efficiency through increased yields, improved quality, decreased input costs, protected yields and new technologies.

  • FieldCrops.org provides timely field crops, soil and pest management information to the agricultural community of New York State.
  • Forages.org provides information and resources from Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
  • Cornell University's Nutrient Management Spear Program is to assess current knowledge, identify research and educational needs, conduct applied, field and laboratory-based research, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer, and aid in the on-farm implementation of beneficial strategies for field crop nutrient management.
  • Agronomy Fact Sheets include articles in pdf format and can be accessed using Adobe's Reader. Adobe Reader is free and is available for download.
  • Northeast Region Certified Crop Adviser is a program of the American Society of Agronomy, serving our nation’s farmers to provide information and expertise on crop production, crop protection, and natural resource management.
  • New York State Integrated Pest Management Program helps you deal with pests—with the weeds, insects, and plant diseases that infest your crops.
  • GrassBioenergy.org provides information on grass bio-fuels from Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Science.
  • Pesticide Management Education Program promotes the safe use of pesticides for the applicator, the consumer, and the environment, and also serves as a pesticide information/education center for those interested in pesticide chemicals.
  • Beginning Hemp? Keys to successful production in New York State. The rapidly expanding hemp and CBD interest over the past year has brought many questions to light about this new/old crop and its market.
