4-H Camp Wabasso: A Brief Timeline
1950's
- 140 farm families and five organizations donated to purchase the property. The original cabins were Spruce, Hemlock, Maple and Pine.
- Cedar Cabin, Council Cabin, Beech Cabin, Wehle Cabin and G.L.F. Cabin were built.
1960's
- Cilley Cabin was built and named after one of camp’s first camp directors.
1980's
- Construction of Hiawatha Hall and Maintenance Building completed.
- Recreation Field was redesigned, regraded, and seeded.
1990's
- Upper bathhouse and lower bathrooms built.
- Jordan Hall converted from bathhouse to open program space.
- Permanent three-bedroom, one-bathroom Infirmary built.
2000's
- Covered front and back porches added on to Hiawatha Hall.
- JCC Center for Community Studies implemented a sustainability study and a long-term facilities enhancement project was developed.
- Low and High Ropes Course built.
2010's
- Generac generator installed.
- Three pavilions built around the Rec Field.
- Renovations completed on Jordan Hall, Tamarack Cabin, and Balsam Cabin.
- Waterfront Pavilion built.
2020's
- 2020: Camp did not operate a traditional overnight camp due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and instead offered family programs and a camp-in-a-box program for over 700 participants.
- 2021: 4-H Camp Wabasso receives American Camp Association Accreditation.
- Renovations completed on Spruce Cabin, Hemlock Cabin, G.L.F. Cabin, Beech Cabin, Elm Cabin, and Wehle Cabin.
- Heat added to Spruce and Hemlock Cabins and first winter camps offered.
