Adopt a Healthy Snack Policy

Healthy Snack Initiative: 

Looking to reinforce the importance of healthy eating and contribute to the improved eating habits of your students, employees, or community members? This initiative provides guidance when choosing snacks that may be offered at your site for sale, for free, or as part of a reception, meeting, or other celebration. 

Healthy snacks and beverages provided at meetings, at events, and in vending areas adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Total fat below 5% per serving (except for nuts and seeds)
  • Added sugar to 8 grams (2 teaspoons) or less per serving
  • Sodium below 220 mg per serving
  • Offering vegetable and fruit options as often as possible
The AHH Community Coalition will provide:
  • Assistance with identifying healthy options. 
  • Guidance with writing, amending, and/or implementing healthy snack guidelines and policies. 
  • Recognition through social and traditional media.
Organizations wishing to implement this initiative will:
  • Create and promote a Healthy Snack Policy to encourage staff and agency participants to make healthier choices easier.
  • Provide ongoing education for existing and new managers, staff, and parents as needed to promote healthy snack guidelines.
